Epson EC-01 Recyclable Printer

OK, it is April 1st, and time for practical jokes, but really now.....

Epson has released a new Environment-Friendly Printing system dubbed the EC-01...

As part of their Environmental Vision 2050 program Epson has literally released a printer that comes with pre-filled ink built into the printer and when it is empty you have to return the Printer for a credit and pick up a replacement printer ! I am not kidding !
This is not April fools....
When you purchase a unit, you will receive it encased in an unpainted and recycled cardboard box. As you set it up, you will leaf through a manual that is printed in recycled paper, and install it using a CD driver stored in an envelope made out of recycled paper. You will get to use the printer to print about 8,000 to 8,500 pages, and then its work is done.
Yes, that’s right. Its work is done because, unlike other printers where you replace the cartridges when the ink runs out, you simply up and take the EC-01 back to Epson, and you get a sort of ‘deposit’ as a rebate – an amount that has been embedded into the purchase price.

HP and Ninestar Resolve Patent Issues

HP has resolved patent violation issues with Ninestar Image Co. Ltd. over HP 02 and HP 14 inkjet cartridges.

Ninestar has agreed to stop selling the cartridges in the United States and other countries where HP has patent rights. Ninestar has agreed to pay HP an undisclosed sum of money.

This is the second patent violation issue between HP and Ninestar. In July 2006, HP filed complaints with the U.S. District Court and the International Trade Commission for patent infringement on other inkjet cartridges.

The two reached a settlement in March 2007 in which Ninestar agreed to remove its products from certain countries.

HP settles inkjet dispute with LexJet

Hewlett-Packard on Thursday announced it has dropped a patent infringement charge against LexJet Corporation over the type of ink used in remanufactured HP print cartridges.

In exchange, LexJet has agreed to alter the recipe used to make its ink as well as pay HP an undisclosed sum.

HP originally filed suit against Florida-based LexJet on May 22.

LexJet is one of many companies that take used HP ink cartridges and resell them with their own ink inside. It's a sensitive topic for HP, one of the world's largest producer of printers and ink cartridges, which has sued several cartridge and ink makers in the past

Back To Schools Specials (Inkjet)

Back To School Deals

Well it's that time of year when we all have to get the kids ready for school, and now it's not only clothes and paper, but computer supplies as well. Thankfully, most of the major retailers are also aware of this and they are also advertising back to school specials.

On-Line Market Offers Deals (Inkjet)

It was only a Matter of time before the on-line discount market got on the bandwagon, and offered deals for Back To School. Metawatch Inkjet Supplies for one has been offering discounts for back to schoolers for years and has now just recently reduced their prices literally across the board for Epson, HP, and Canon Inkjet Cartridge products.

Discounts for highly discounted products.

Just when everyone thought that they could already get great deals on-line, along comes this highly discounted product (Inkjet Cartridges), and their distributors manage to cut their prices for back to school specials. Why do they do it ? Well, typically stock starts to pool during the summer months due the the large volume of consumers on vacation, so their market is somewhat slow in getting back into the fray. Offering back to school specials provides for a foot in the door into the newly purchased printer market for thrifty shoppers. Its your best time of year to stock up on supplies as the prices tend to be the lowest of the year !

Tattoos using your inkjet printer

Thought your inkjet printer was for only making photo's , well you were wrong...

Temporary tattoo papilio.

Now, with these new paper composites you can make temporary tattoo's for your kids, or your self at Halloween, to attend Sporting events, or for you latest concert, or National Event (Quebec 400th birthday).

I bet you always wanted a tattoo but didn’t want to have to go through the pain of having one done (or embarrassment) . You can now have as many painless tattoos as you like by just using your inkjet or laser printer.

Simply by printing off any design to the special tattoo paper, including photos you can transfer them to any body part in minutes. The tattoo paper is easy to use and tattoos can last for up to a week before they wash off.

The key is the special tattoo paper and not the inkjet inks. Any inkjet ink will work well, but beware of raining days, as no inkjet yet on the market is fully waterproof.

You can buy this tattoo paper on-line from suppliers like papilio.com or others at reasonable rates. Also check out you local paper supply store, they probably have something similar in stock.

Don't delay... Its time to party....

Inkjet Ink Secret Ingredient

N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone

Also goes by the name (Chemists call it) N-Pyrol.

This ingredient can make up to 40-60% of some inkjet inks and is the secret ingredient that prevents the ink from evaporating into the air.

Beware though. There are many refill establishments that do not use N-Pyrol in their inks (Typically drop by and refill shops) where the ink may need to be used within 30 days after refilling. Inkjet cartridges using N-Pyrol can last 3 years and more without any degradation in the effectiveness of the ink when used in the 20 deg C range.

Considered a "fairly" non toxic ingredient, it is also commonly used for Paint Strippers.

It is readily absorbed by the skin and has been know to cause local irritation in laboratory testing.

You can find a MDS (Data Safety) sheet at this link.

or the International Chemical Safety card sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
